Movie Review
Title: The American President ( 1995 )
Starring: Michael Douglas, Annette Bening, Michael J. Fox
Director: Rob Reiner
Writer: Aaron Sorkin
Synopsis
Andrew Shepherd is approaching the end of his first term as President of the United States. He's a widower with a young daughter and has proved to be popular with the public. His election seems assured. That is until he meets Sydney Ellen Wade, a paid political activist working for an environmental lobby group. He's immediately smitten with her and after several amusing attempts, they finally manage to go on a date (which happens to be a State dinner for the visiting President of France). His relationship with Wade opens the door for his prime political opponent, Senator Bob Rumson, to launch an attack on the President's character, something he could not do in the previous election as Shepherd's wife had only recently died.
My review:
I actually enjoyed this movie very much. It explained to me the life of the U.S President and I understand him better after watching the movie. It showed his affection side of him rather than just his professionalism running the country. Having the impression of a firm and stern person, the movie actually tells us that the U.S President is a serious person and also a family man. He is just another human being and he has feelings which other human beings have. The nations judged him when he was interested with Ms. Sydney and threw harsh accusations towards their relationship. Fortunately they both had a strong will and manage to fight through the bitterness and achieved their dreams. I was certainly touched and impressed with the U.S President and it changed my impression towards him.
Rating : 4 STARS
